Until then…

Learn to Play

The best way for me to concentrate on guitar practicing and learning music theory, is to play a Tommy Emmanual DVD at the same time. Everytime I watch him play, I’m just so moved that any boring practices seem interesting. Now, whole whole half, whole whole whole half…

That’s my definition of a great musician: to be able to motivate other people to want to play.

My first quest of guitar learning happened when I was in high school. I don’t remember exactly why I wanted to learn it…

Grandma took out a guitar from nowhere after she knew about this. A brand new Yahama music store happened to be near by. Grandma took the old guitar there, had them change the strings and all, and also bought me an instructional booklet.

The only thing I learned at that period, which I never forget since, was: EADGBE.

Katamari Damacy .

Katamari DamacyI don’t play video games that much. Seriously.

But once in awhile I get addicted to some silly little game, like this one Tim showed me.

The idea is quite obsurd, really, that you need to roll up everything on earth and make them into stars in the sky.

These days, whenever I see something, I will start thinking, “How big should my karamari be to roll that up…”

I just finished creating the moon! and I feel the cosmos!
(… and here are some tips. I’m still resisting the temptation of reading about where all the royal gifts are…)

Ding-dong Cat

Ding-dong Cat
Don’t come any closer!

You probably can’t see the gray tabby very clearly in the picture, but that’s ’cause I never actually managed to be close enough to him/her.

In fact, this is the first time I am able to take a good look at Ding-dong cat, after “hearing” him/her for a few months. :)

She (hum, I think it’s a she) visits us around 10, 11 pm almost everynight these days, and will just dash away if we open the door.

I think our LC is quite popular in this neighborhood. Every kitty wants to visit her. ;)

Alaska . Off the Beaten Path

McCarthy Road

Saturday, June 19th, 2005 . Kennicott

Day 7, Healy to Kennicott

We came up with the itinerary mostly by ourselves, with the help from many tour books and Simon.

During the whole trip, this day worries me the most. We needed to drive 12 hours, and about 200 miles of them are unpaved road.

Did I mention that there is only one restaurant that serves dinner at 7 in the evening in the town we’d be staying?

And of course, it started raining this morning…

Alaska . Wild Wild Life

Denali, on a cloudy day

Friday, June 18th, 2005 . Healy

Day 6, Denali National Park

Weather-wise, we have been very lucky since we arrived Alaska. FIVE sunny days in a row! (after raining for more than a week, as the locals never ceased to remind us.)

So this was the first cloudy day we encountered, though we were still able to see Denali. The guide said from his experience over the past 10 years, there’s only a 20% chance for people to be able to see Denali, not to mention on a cloudy day!

However, wild animals seem to enjoy a cool day like this… Lucky us! since we scheduled the Tundra Wilderness Tour today! ;)

Alaska . Mt. Healy

Mt. Healy

Thursday, June 17th, 2005 . Healy

Day 5, Talkeetna to Healy

We heard a comment from someone, that he doesn’t understand why Denali National Park is a national park. He thinks that it looks about the same as the rest of Alaska.

I think he got it wrong. First, if you think about it, the rest of Alaska CAN be a national park. ;) Second, Denali National Park has more to offer than its entrance area where most visitors go.

You can’t see North America’s highest peak in the entrance area; you also don’t see wolves, caribous, and bears hanging out there.

Even so, the view was breath-taking when we were on the top of a hill in the entrance area.

See, you need to do some work in order to appreciate all this. :)
