A Poem . 一首詩

I always think that poems are written for special people to read, and I’m not one of them.

Not that I’ve changed my mind, but I read this little poem in the latest *ahem*PIPP, and thought I want to share it.

Some More Light Verse

You have to try. You see a shrink.
You learn a lot. You read. You think.
You struggle to improve your looks.
You meet some men. You write some books.
You eat good food. You give up junk.
You do not smoke. You don’t get drunk.
You take up yoga, walk and swim.
And nothing works. The outlook’s grim.
You don’t know what to do. You cry.
You’re running out of things to try.

You blow your nose. You see the shrink.
You walk. You give up food and drink.
You fall in love. You make a plan.
You struggle to improve your man.
And nothing works. The outlook’s grim.
You go to yoga, cry, and swim.
You eat and drink. You give up looks.
You struggle to improve your books.
You cannot see the point. You sigh.
You do not smoke. You have to try.
~ Wendy Cope

我一向不是很喜歡讀(現代)詩. 總覺得很多詩想要表達的意境是我不能或是不想理解的. (可我又很容易被歌詞感動. 這差別在那兒?)

Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince

I decided to hide in my condo all Sunday, and there’s no better thing to do than reading the latest Harry Potter!

I’m kinda sorta done with the first reading (or flipping through, rather), and probably got most of the important “facts”.

All I want to say is:

It’s TOO sad!

I guess I should go back and read everything in details now. *sigh*

So if you don’t see me blogging over the next few days, you know what I’m up to. ;)

LC & I

I’ve been reading some books about cats. Not practical books like “Cats for Dummies” or “Cat Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook”, which I have been unfortunate enough to have to consult with quite often lately, (They’re good books, by the way. They kept me sane during vet hospital’s closing hours.) but books about human-kitty relationships written by people owned by their kitties.

Normally I wouldn’t buy these books. But I guess I needed some relief while browsing all the information I can find about FLUTD a few weeks ago in the bookstores when LC was going thru the bladder infection/crystal crisis.

  • ALL MY PATIENTS ARE UNDER THE BED by Dr. Louis J. Camuti
  • I really really like this book! It has stories told by a vet who has practiced ’till he’s 80 something. Each chapter has a main theme, like where the cats usually hide when he visits, cat owners strange behaviors, etc. It’s also educational to some extent, touches briefly on issues like declawing, spaying/neutering, and all those stuff.

  • The Cat Who Came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory
  • I haven’t decided about my feelings towards this book yet. It seems interesting enough, and yet I find myself jumping one paragraph after another trying to find the point of the story. Also, it contains conversations between the author and this kitty he rescued and adopted. I think the kitty spoke with his tail and eyes and ears and all, and the author did the translation. Hum, and I thought I am humanizing my kitty a bit too much.

  • The Cat Who Went to Paris by Peter Gethers
  • It’s more like the author’s autobiography than cat stories. Besides, he doesn’t really have a cat. He has a human-like creature disguised as a Scottish Fold, who, no matter where they are (including, of course, Paris), is allowed to go outdoor, always answers when the author calls his name, who doesn’t jump out while sitting in a car with it’s windows opened, and all that. Riiiiiight. The kitty’s cute, though.

Maybe I’ve read too much of these books. While I was trying to figure out whether LC got the fever or not this morning, I suddenly have this feeling that, LC seems to be ill whenever I’m really stressful. I was all stressed out yesterday and this morning, and look what happened! She had diarrhea! I was feeling very tired before my brother and I left for LA a few weeks ago, and she had this sudden “incident” of going to her litter box 4 times in 20 minutes, delayed our trip and earned herself another visit to the vet. Now, what happened during the onset of her first occurance of bladder infection??? I think it was the 4th of July weekend… What happened at that time? …… I can’t remember.

and THIS is why I’m not a writer.
